How much money do you realistically have to spend on this camping trip? The amount of money you are willing to spend can greatly affect the type of tent that is available to you, but you should not immediately feel defeated if your initial visit to the store doesn't yield an acceptable result. 2. What kind of camper are you?

Are you planning to camp on your own or with others? Not only is this an important consideration, but you also need to take into account what sort of camping trip you envision. For instance if you want to go on a hiking trip where you can stop and set up camp when and where you like, you should opt for a tent that will be compact and lightweight enough to be portable in your backpack.

If, on the other hand, you are planning to take a family vacation, you will need a larger tent that will fit into your car trunk but may not be well suited to carrying for long distances.
