Deforestation In The Amazon: Its Roots And Consequences
The Amazon Forest is situated in the northern part of South America. It is so large that nine countries in fact are part of it. Brazil is one. The Amazon is sixty percent Brazilian lands. Rich, vibrant tall trees can be found here, species known and not to humans. Animals and humans both make the Amazon their home. Deforestation of it is extremely harmful to our planet.
The Amazon helps to absorb carbon dioxide and is the main provider in regards to helping prevent green house gases from increasing in the surfaces of the atmosphere. But as deforestation takes place in the Amazon, increasingly our world is in danger of being harmed.
If the Amazon forest disappears, what will this mean to our earth? Carbon Dioxide that accumulates will in time seep back into the air; the result of this will mean that sudden terrible changes of greenhouse effect will take place. Animal life resources will be gone and the largest earthly source of nature will disappear.
The Roots of Deforestation In The Amazon
On a yearly basis large portions of the Amazon forest are disappearing strictly for agricultural reasons; poor farmers in need of money and large corporations. Small areas of the Amazon are being cleared in order to help feed the poor, while larger portions are being destroyed for soybean vegetation.
Logging is the main activity taking place in the Amazon. The wood is for the local people, used to build small houses and for fire. There is not a great deal of damage done to the forest because of this. But the activities of larger corporations do wreak havoc on the Amazon. Deforestation, the demand for timber will eventually lead to the disappearance of the Amazon. Once it is gone it’s essentially gone. Animals that need the forest will have difficulty changing their habits to the changes in their natural environment. The end result is usually extinction.

The Amazon is a home for many types of animals; many of mankind's need can be found here. If the lands of the Amazon are no longer here, then the earth’s balance of ecosystems will no longer be here. The result of this is that plant and animal homes will be gone, period. The earth’s climate will be altered. The Amazon is a great source of food and medicine, and this will be gone for good.
Tribal people will lose their homes, and humans will not be protected from floods, erosion, drought.
