Caring For Laminated Flooring
Laminated flooring made its debut in the 1990s. Laminated flooring consists of laminated wood that is made to look like hardwood flooring. The difference between laminated flooring and wood flooring is that laminated is made up of byproducts and has a laminated coating on the top. People like it because, unlike wood flooring, you can wash it and it is easy to install.
After installation caring for laminated flooring
Laminated flooring is installed by using tar paper and glue. Each piece of the laminated flooring fits into the next piece - there are no nails involved. You glue the pieces down similar to how you glue down tile. Then you have to wash the excess glue up and allow the floor to sit for a day before walking on it.
Cleaning laminated flooring
If something spills on the laminated flooring, clean it up as soon as possible so that it will not stain. Laminated flooring has a lot more staying power than wood flooring. Because it is not as porous, stains do not permanently damage the flooring. But because it cannot be sanded down and re - stained, damage to laminated flooring is a lot more substantial than damage to wood flooring. If laminated flooring is stained or burned, you have to remove the injured piece and put a new piece in place. This can be quite a task and usually involves taking up several pieces of laminated flooring and then re-gluing them down.
You can use water on laminated flooring and there are also special floor cleaners. You are better off to use these special cleaners than just picking up a cleaner on the market because they are made to be gentle with the laminate that covers the floor. Mild dish detergent will also work well with cleaning laminated flooring.
No harsh chemicals
Unlike linoleum tile, which can be waxed, you cannot wax laminated flooring. Once the shine wears down, you are pretty much stuck replacing the floor. So the trick is to not allow the shine to wear down. The best way to do this is to not use any harsh chemicals on the floor that may strip up the laminate. This includes Lysol or Pine Sol, both of which have harsh chemical agents. You are better off to use the products that are made for laminated flooring.
Laminated flooring is pretty tough and will withstand heat and spills better than wood flooring. It will not chip if something heavy is dropped on it like tile flooring. It is easy to install so that anyone can install laminated flooring in a weekend. If you are looking for the look of real wood in a flooring that is economical, easy to install and easy to clean, you should consider purchasing laminated flooring.
