Getting your first job can be a real big step, especially if you do not have any experience in the field which you are applying for. You may or may not have an education towards the job, but that is why many jobs have training, some even have paid training. Unless you are applying to a type of service job or simple labor type job, you will need a resume to at least be considered for the job.

Writing a resume should not be a stressful task as it is just a description of your best qualities and qualifications towards the job you are applying for. Writing a resume will be frustrating for some that have no experience whatsoever to list on a resume, but there are some tricks you can use to make your resume have some meat on its bones as well as making you look better as a candidate for the job.

The main things that you will include in your resume will be: Your Job objective, Highlights of Qualifications, Experience, Education and Training. You will basically state what you are applying for in your Job Objective. In your Highlights of Qualifications you will want to list anything that you have done that can be beneficial towards your Job Objective. You will want to list any experience or education pertaining to your job choice.

If you have no job experience or have nothing to list in your resume towards job experience, then you can be creative with some of the things you have done. If you have been in school or just out of high school. You can list your achievements in your school career. Even listing being in school for the period of time prior to your job search will help your resume.

Getting experience towards your job choice will be beneficial. Volunteering to work in a situation that will allow you to gain some skill or knowledge about a job can be listed in your resume. Putting one day a week for four weeks towards volunteering in your job field can be listed as experience, even if it is not too much experience, at least it’s something. Any relevant skills such as typing, clerical knowledge, organizational skills or anything pertaining to the job title you are applying for should be mentioned.

Action result scenarios are great ways to talk about something that you did to improve the quality of work or service in a previous situation. Having organizational skills or a mathematical background, fixing problems in a panic situation, etc will help to make you look responsible and trustworthy in an emergency or high stressful environment. Any skills that you have that can be used in the job you are applying for should be listed.

Closing Comments

First time resume writers will have a hard time writing a resume, even making mistakes is a part of resume writing. Make sure to get another person’s opinion on what you can do to make it better, preferably a person that has written resumes and has been employed before.
